Generate correctly scaled and colored PCD fixtures with Pillow - #6521
Use Python 3 and Pillow to generate PCD fixtures. Convert images to RGB, center single points and axis-aligned lines without dividing by zero, preserve aspect ratio, and declare packed RGB as unsigned in the PCD header.
Tested with real Pillow images using test/test_convert_image_to_point_cloud.py on Python 3.12. The C++ suite was not run.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Improvements
Image-to-point-cloud conversion now ignores white pixels and preserves RGB color values in the output. When scaling is enabled, point coordinates are centered and uniformly scaled. Empty inputs are handled without attempting to scale nonexistent points.
Tests
Added coverage for grayscale and RGB images, including point coordinates, packed colors, output formatting, point counts, and empty inputs.
No actionable comments were generated in the recent review.
Walkthrough
The converter now uses Python 3 and PIL to read images as RGB, collect non-white pixels, optionally scale their coordinates, and write PCD output with packed RGB values. A unittest checks output for grayscale and RGB image cases.

Summary
Load images and collect pixels test/convert_image_to_point_cloud.py
The script opens images with PIL, converts them to RGB, and collects non-white pixels as coordinate and color tuples.
Scale coordinates and write PCD test/convert_image_to_point_cloud.py, test/test_convert_image_to_point_cloud.py
When scaling is enabled and points exist, the script centers and scales coordinates using the larger coordinate span, with a minimum span of 1. It writes packed RGB values using an unsigned PCD field. Tests run the converter on grayscale and RGB images and check the output.
This change updates a test-fixture converter to Python 3 and Pillow and adds a regression test. No actionable merge-blocking risk is evident.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to cb070
The change is confined to local image-to-point-cloud fixture generation. Inspection found no expanded privileges or newly exposed service entrypoint. The main uncertainty is downstream compatibility of the revised output, which was not validated through the C++ reader suite.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The inspected changes remain within the invoking process's image-read and stdout authority. The base already accepted a caller-selected image path; the head changes decoding and serialization without introducing a network listener, privileged operation, credential access, or destination-file write in the converter.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The new test creates fixed image cases inside a temporary-directory context and invokes the known sibling converter through subprocess.check_output with separate arguments. Image pixels and the temporary path are not interpolated into a shell command.

Explanation
The title names the two main changes: scaled and colored PCD fixtures generated with Pillow. The changeset matches this. The conversion script now uses PIL.Image, converts images to RGB, scales coordinates by the larger span, and declares rgb as unsigned. A new unittest checks the coordinates, packed RGB values, and header. The title is specific and does not need to list every detail.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 1 functions across 2 files.
