Summary

• Add v1.20.5 release notes to release-notes-1.20.md. The summary leads with the eMudhra fix: the Debian 13 base images drop the "emSign ECC Root CA - G3" root, and Go 1.26.10 fixes CVE-2026-111943. It links to the eMudhra Compromise section of the trust-manager docs, as the v1.21.3 notes do.
• Add a short section saying that building cert-manager 1.20 from source now needs Go 1.26, because [release-1.20] Raise the go directive to 1.26 to take x/net v0.60.0 cert-manager#9524 raised the go directive to take x/net v0.60.0. It also says the released binaries keep the v1.20.4 GODEBUG defaults.
• Say that the two x/crypto/ssh findings listed in the v1.20.4 notes are fixed, and that scanners still report GO-2026-5932.
• The changelog is written by hand. Only [release-1.20] Update dependency go to v1.26.10 cert-manager#9503, [release-1.20] Update base images to Debian 13 cert-manager#9511 and [release-1.20] Raise the go directive to 1.26 to take x/net v0.60.0 cert-manager#9524 carry a release note. It leaves out the three test-only cherry-picks ([release-1.20] Use server-side apply to trigger issuance in flaky private key rotation tests cert-manager#9385, [release-1.20] fix(ci): fixing ci tests with change in bind image cert-manager#9476, [release-1.20] test(e2e): use local DNS zone for ACME webhook test cert-manager#9477), as earlier patch notes do.
• variables.json is unchanged. v1.21.3 stays cert_manager_latest_version.

Motivation

Part of the cert-manager v1.20.5 release: cert-manager/cert-manager#9512. Scope is release-1.20 at cert-manager/cert-manager@bb9a396c5. That includes two Renovate fixes merged on 2026-10-28 for advisories published after the first draft: x/net v0.62.0 (cert-manager/cert-manager#9530) and go-jose v4.1.6 (cert-manager/cert-manager#9527).

Test plan

• Netlify deploy preview renders the v1.20.5 section, and the eMudhra link resolves
• The check workflow passes (spelling, links, markdown). Node is not installed on my machine, so I have not run it locally. The first run failed on the British spelling "behaviour", which is now reworded

v1.20.5 removes trust in the compromised eMudhra CA (cert-manager/cert-manager#9505) for users on cert-manager 1.20. It is already published: the images, the Helm chart on both quay.io and charts.jetstack.io, and the GitHub release. The GitHub release body uses the same text as this PR. Until this PR merges, the release notes page has no v1.20.5 section.

These notes describe a release that has already shipped. They were checked against the published artefacts before merging:

• The summary matches the release. None of the five published images contains "emSign ECC Root CA - G3", and a trivy scan of them finds only GO-2026-5932, which the notes mention. The details are on jetstack/jetstack-charts#576.
• The changelog entries match the PRs merged to release-1.20 since v1.20.4, including the two Renovate fixes (chore(deps): update module github.com/go-jose/go-jose/v4 to v4.1.6 [security] (release-1.20) cert-manager#9527 and chore(deps): update module golang.org/x/net to v0.62.0 [security] (release-1.20) cert-manager#9530) merged before the tag.
• CI is green, and the Netlify preview renders the v1.20.5 section and the eMudhra link. variables.json is unchanged, so the install docs still point at v1.21.3.
